What’s Your Why?

I love talking about my “Why” and I love getting my clients to discover their “why” as well. So, I’m playing a fun game with Courtney Sanders of @thinkngrowchick and her followers to get people to make a collage and share their “whys” with her and other women.
Why 1: I wrote this in my “About” section of my blog last year because I think it’s important for people to know what matters to you and what you’re work towards. So, my “why” for The #GoandGlowProject is to empower women to go out and achieve the things they’ve been wanting to do but don’t know how. I want to equip women with marketing, personal development and business strategies to help them become a powerful force in their businesses and in their personal lives.
Why 2: I’m building my brand to continue to travel the world and have the freedom to explore the world. I’ve had the fortunate experience to live abroad in China and travel a very tiny corner of the world, and now I need to complete my dream of visiting every continent. And not just to take photos and eat cultural food, but to go work in the trenches of communities in Africa and speak to young women and help shape a different set of expectancies for their lives and what they think is possible.
Why 3: I’m building my brand to one day join forces with 3 of the most powerful, influential black women in the world: Oprah, Beyonce and First Lady Michelle Obama. I want to work on campaigns, form partnerships and do philanthropic work alongside these women in the name of The Go and Glow Project and God. I’ve already asked God to increase my territory and influence, so the stars and the universe are forming their alignment as we speak.
Why 4: I want to pour into our young girls and teens here in the states and be a catalyst for self-esteem and purpose-driven living for them.
Why 5: I’m building my brand to have a legacy to give to my future children. And to also have a successful marriage that models healthy black families.
So, do you #knowyourwhy? Use that hashtag and #ThinkandGrowChick and share your why!

Until the next post,

Go and Glow!

Podcast Episode 006: Traveling with Reporter Melissa Hellmann

Hey Glowers,

Today’s podcast episode is an interview with San Francisco based reporter and journalist, Melissa Hellmann, who reports on news, arts, culture, health, education, politics and design, and who has traveled to over 20 countries! Melissa is a former colleague of mine from when I lived and worked in Shanghai, and at the time of this interview she’s living in Hong Kong and interning for TIME Asia and reporting on Hong Kong-China relations and international affairs.

In our interview, she talks about the cool stories she’s worked on, some awesome backpacking-in-India tales and other traveling experiences, and the importance of chasing her dreams and having the courage to change careers to work in her passion. A great quote from Melissa in regards to working on her craft and interning before she had her dream job was, “I didn’t want to spend my entire day doing something that I wasn’t especially interested in, so I needed to have a few hours in the day to do something I was really proud of.” And a great jewel about not giving up after she made some mistakes was, “You have to fail to realize what you’re capable of doing better.”

To read some of the stories she’s covered and to follow her travel adventures, go to www.MelissaHellmann.com.

Podcast Episode 005: International Entrepreneurship and Education with Gahmya Jenell

Hey Glowers,

Today’s podcast episode is an interview with the 2x Tedx Speaker, International Educator and Entrepreneur, Gahmya Jenell Drummond-Bey. She’s an American currently living in South Korea  – teaching and launching her own online educational platform. She speaks 5 languages, (yes, 5!) and has traveled the world – first living in Turkmenistan where she began her career in community health and education advocacy and also first explored the expat life.

A few great gems (out of the many) Gahmya shared with us in this interview are:

1. “If we allow ourselves to be mediocre, there’s someone out there being disappointed who won’t get what they need.”

2. “Our ability to breathe and exist is not for free. It’s the duty of each and every one of us to give what it is in us to give to the world to pay for our existence.”

3. “I say yes to myself as much as possible.”

4. “I had a rule of keeping my 20’s to myself.”

5. “Anytime you evolve and love on yourself you allow yourself to shine…to Go and Glow!”

Take a listen to this episode and share it with your friends who are entrepreneurs and who are educators! Gahmya gives great tips on how to build your own business with your own curriculum, which will give insight to teachers on how to work for the system and still create your own brand. Podcast Episode 001: 8 Questions to Keep You Aligned with Your Purpose

Hi, Glowers! This is the first Go and Glow Podcast episode. In this episode, I discuss how being uninspired in my career led me to travel and live abroad and experience life in an extraordinary, more meaningful way. If you’re feeling uninspired, unmotivated and you can’t seem to figure out how to live a more powerful, purposeful life – listen to this podcast and write down and reflect on the 8 questions I ask myself and my coaching clients.

1. What’s great about your life this week?

2. How have you grown this week?

3. How did you serve yourself this week?

4. How did you serve others this week?

5. Who and what are you grateful for?

6. Who’s grateful for you?

7. What did you learn this week?

8. How would you rate your life this week, using a scale of 1-10?

Develop a routine of asking yourself these questions every week and jotting down the answers in a journal. Hire a Life Coach, mentor or assign someone to be your accountability partner and start that project you’ve been wanting to start. Get out of the monotonous routine of going to work everyday and then going home to watch reality TV. Start living on purpose. Start serving others. Start serving yourself. Figure out what it is you want to spend your extra time doing so that you can turn that passion into a profit with a purpose!

Go and Glow!
