Podcast Episode 009: Fashion & Philanthropy with Alma Mei

Hey Glowers!

This episode of Go and Glow! is an interview with fashionpreneurs Gaby Ortega and Liz De La Cruz-Jean of Alma Mei, an online fashion boutique that donates a percentage of every purchase to non-profit organizations. How cool is that, right!?

‘Alma’ which means ‘Soul’ in Spanish and ‘Mei’ which means ‘Beautiful’ in Mandarin expresses the spirit of the woman who embraces her sense of fashion as well as her sense of purpose. The Alma Mei girl doesn’t just look good – she gives back to her community. Check out the hashtag #LookGoodDoGood to see the ‘Beautiful Souls’ out there spreading awareness for different causes.

Based in Miami, Gaby and Liz share their entrepreneur and philanthropic journey, the impact their brand has had on the fashion community and the Latina community, and jewels on relationship building and collaboration. They also give great tips on how to manage a full-time job, a family and a personal life all while running a business.

To shop with Alma Mei, or to find out how to partner with them for events, fashion shows and/or charities, go to www.AlmaMei.com.

And don’t forget to subscribe to my blog at GoandGlowProject.com and my Youtube channel, Youtube.com/GoandGlowProject. We’re on Facebook too at Facebook.com/GoandGlowProject. Merry Christmas!

posted in: Uncategorized | 0

Hey Glowers!

I wanted to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas!

I went to church a few days ago and the Bishop’s daughter said that we spend so much time in the malls during Christmas buying gifts for everyone, but what gifts do we have to give to the The King? And I thought that was such a powerful question. It made me think about my brand and if I was using my gifts that God gave ME to give back to HIM. I had to think about my mission and make sure it was anchored in God’s message.

From time to time, I’ll sit down and go over my mission statement to make sure I’m following through with what I say I want to do, and to remind myself of what I haven’t done yet. But this was the first time that I decided to make sure my values were aligned with what I believe God wants me to do and how He wants to use me.

So, I challenge you today and in 2015 to anchor your brand and your mission in whatever higher power you believe in and whatever principles you stand for. We can go that much further when our mission and message is bigger than us.
I hope you are enjoying your holidays with your family and friends.

Until the next post,

Go and Glow!

Podcast Episode 006: Traveling with Reporter Melissa Hellmann

Hey Glowers,

Today’s podcast episode is an interview with San Francisco based reporter and journalist, Melissa Hellmann, who reports on news, arts, culture, health, education, politics and design, and who has traveled to over 20 countries! Melissa is a former colleague of mine from when I lived and worked in Shanghai, and at the time of this interview she’s living in Hong Kong and interning for TIME Asia and reporting on Hong Kong-China relations and international affairs.

In our interview, she talks about the cool stories she’s worked on, some awesome backpacking-in-India tales and other traveling experiences, and the importance of chasing her dreams and having the courage to change careers to work in her passion. A great quote from Melissa in regards to working on her craft and interning before she had her dream job was, “I didn’t want to spend my entire day doing something that I wasn’t especially interested in, so I needed to have a few hours in the day to do something I was really proud of.” And a great jewel about not giving up after she made some mistakes was, “You have to fail to realize what you’re capable of doing better.”

To read some of the stories she’s covered and to follow her travel adventures, go to www.MelissaHellmann.com.

And to subscribe to my blog, watch Go and Glow TV or to book me for a branding consultation for your business, go to www.GoandGlowProject.com or email me at GoandGlowProject@gmail.com.

5 Things I’m Thankful For on this Thanksgiving Holiday

posted in: Uncategorized | 2

Hey Glowers!

Happy Thanksgiving! I’m actually a day late posting this, so it’s the day after Thanksgiving, but there’s a reason why I’m thankful that I’m posting this a day late. I wanted to share with you the top 5 things I’m thankful for and I wanted to challenge you to write down the top 5 things you’re thankful for. I tend to practice gratitude everyday, but I still think it’s healthy to share it with your loved ones…with the other Glowers in the world.

#5: I’m thankful for the experiences I’ve had this year and for the courage to take risks and try the things I’ve always wanted to try. I’ve been able to launch my platform, be in a few movies and TV shows and start my entrepreneurial journey. I’ve had quite a few challenging experiences that have made me question my decisions and have allowed for so much reflection. So, I’m thankful for the challenging moments as well as all of my growth opportunities.

#4: I’m thankful for having an extended family of awesome in-laws-to-be. I’m engaged to someone who has an amazing family and who has made the ‘Welcome to the Family’ transition so warm and so loving. They came from out of town to visit us for Thanksgiving and I’m thankful that we were able to eat together, laugh together, play fun games together and just fellowship together. I had a ‘no social media’ policy for myself when I was around them (for most of the day yesterday) because I really wanted to be in the moment and show them that I appreciated them flying here to be with us. So, I’m thankful that the reason I’m a day late with this blog post is because I had family to spend time with instead.

#3: I’m thankful to be healthy. This year I started running and eating healthier and I feel like a million bucks. I didn’t make a New Year’s Resolution or anything, I just started cutting out a lot of sugars and eating more green leafy stuff. And I started running in the mornings to get some clarity and direction for my life, and I ended up losing some weight and feeling great! So, I’m thankful that this year has been a healthier one for me.

#2:  I’m thankful for having returned from living in China and having amazing, supportive family, friends and a partner here in Atlanta to help me transition back into living here. When you live abroad for a while you realize that everyone’s life goes on without you and everyone has a family to raise and a career ladder to climb or a business to build, so you can only hope that when you return back to the states your family and friends can carve out a little time for you. It’s nice when you can have dinner with friends and they want to know about your experiences and you can catch up where you left off. So I’m grateful for the relationships I still have and for my family who has been there through it all.

#1: I’m thankful for The Go and Glow Project. I’ve been able to connect with so many inspiring and motivating women with my project. I’ve been able to interview some people who have inspired me to go after my dreams. I’ve been able to create the possibilities for my dreams. And I’ve received emails from women and men who are inspired by my project to go after their dreams! So, helping people has been one of my top priorities this year and I’m thankful to God for my helping spirit.

Now, what are you thankful for? Let me know in the comments!

Until the next blog post, Go and Glow!

Finding Beauty in Nature

posted in: Uncategorized | 0

Hey Glowers,

Today, on my morning run, I ran past at least 10 of the most beautiful red/auburn-leaved trees. And at each one that I ran past I stopped to take a photo because they looked like screensavers and really made the neighborhood look gorgeous. The last tree in this photo had a sunray beaming next to it, which I didn’t notice until after I took it and walked back into the house and went through all of them. I know that this has to be a metaphor for a few things:

1. When you start to find the beauty in life and become grateful for everything, the Universe conspires to give you more things to be grateful for.

2. Your journey will reveal to you everything you need to know about yourself through people, through losses, through experiences, through love, and through nature – if you just pay attention.

3. There’s always God’s light at the end of a dark tunnel.

Enjoy today and go find your sunray!

Podcast Episode 001: 8 Questions to Keep You Aligned with Your Purpose

Hi, Glowers! This is the first Go and Glow Podcast episode. In this episode, I discuss how being uninspired in my career led me to travel and live abroad and experience life in an extraordinary, more meaningful way. If you’re feeling uninspired, unmotivated and you can’t seem to figure out how to live a more powerful, purposeful life – listen to this podcast and write down and reflect on the 8 questions I ask myself and my coaching clients.

1. What’s great about your life this week?

2. How have you grown this week?

3. How did you serve yourself this week?

4. How did you serve others this week?

5. Who and what are you grateful for?

6. Who’s grateful for you?

7. What did you learn this week?

8. How would you rate your life this week, using a scale of 1-10?

Develop a routine of asking yourself these questions every week and jotting down the answers in a journal. Hire a Life Coach, mentor or assign someone to be your accountability partner and start that project you’ve been wanting to start. Get out of the monotonous routine of going to work everyday and then going home to watch reality TV. Start living on purpose. Start serving others. Start serving yourself. Figure out what it is you want to spend your extra time doing so that you can turn that passion into a profit with a purpose!
